When putting this album together, this track followed the first. “The First Two - Don’t Have Names.” Julie named them, it fit, and here they are on the official release.
Digging deeper into this title. Don’t Have Names is an idea I’ve been gradually putting into effect in my life. Instead of focusing on my personal name or reputation, I have shifted priority to symbols, ideas, and music. Instead of my accomplishments, I would rather my name be remembered in connection to inspiring others… sharing my knowledge and understanding in creative ways through symbols.
Every symbol, whether that be a letter of the alphabet, egyptian hieroglyph, or cuneiform, holds power in what it means. Or I should say, what we’ve been taught it means. If the majority of the world views something as simple as a number (666) or hand gesture to represent evil, then that’s the power the symbol will hold. In an ‘alternate universe’, these same numbers may simply be numbers and nothing more. The power the bible has given these numbers is just an example of how symbols can be used to spread an idea and hold power.
Don’t have names; Create a symbol that holds the ideas you wish to spread. Logos of major corporations are the simplest example. Cuneiform script is the first example.
